Friends of Rawcliffe Meadows Work Party 7th December 2014

Ten of us gathered on the sunny side of the Cornfield Nature Reserve  on Sunday 7th to clear around the gorse that had been planted over the last two years to make it even more attractive to the Yellowhammers that we are so fortunate to have gathering in numbers during the winter. As it was with Maria, Judi, Tom, Caroline, Sue, the two Marks, Ron and Mick we soon had the existing gorse cleared and fifteen additional plants dug in.  We did so well we also planted ten blackthorn and  ten hawthorn ( that had been bought for Blue Beck Copse) to provide some more food for the birds in the future.

As well as the Yellowhammers around us could be heard and seen numerous Tree Sparrows, Greenfinches, Redwings, Reed and Corn Buntings, along with a solitary Great Spotted Woodpecker heard in the Copse to the north west.
